Discovering Jesus Together
DAILY VERSE · Day 331

Renewed by Him

Strength in Christ

He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
ISAIAH 40:29-31 · ESV

Notice who this verse admits gets tired: not the weak, but the young and strong. "Even youths shall faint and be weary." It's not describing people who lack stamina — it's describing the fact that stamina itself runs out eventually, for everyone, no matter how much of it you started with.

That's probably closer to where you actually are than any pep talk about trying harder. Maybe you've done the willpower thing. Maybe it worked for a while and then it didn't, and you're left wondering if exhaustion is just the permanent condition now. This verse doesn't offer more willpower. It offers a swap — strength that isn't generated by you at all, but given, to people who've run out of their own.

The image at the end is worth sitting with: not walking faster through sheer effort, but soaring, the way something rises on air that's already moving. That's not a technique. It's something you'd have to receive rather than produce.

If you're tired of trying harder, it might be worth exploring what it means to wait for God instead of working for him.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
