Never Cast Off Forever

Unshakeable Love

For the Lord will not cast off forever, but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love.
LAMENTATIONS 3:31-32 · ESV

"For a time" is the quiet assumption hiding underneath this verse — the idea that whatever hard season you're in has an edge to it, a place where it stops. That's not obvious when you're inside a hard season. Pain has a way of feeling permanent, like it's always been this way and always will be.

This verse doesn't deny the grief — it names it directly. "Though he cause grief." No spiritual bypass, no pretending. But it puts a limit on it that grief itself never announces on its own: not forever. Cast off, but not forever cast off.

That's a small phrase to build hope on, and maybe that's the point — hope often has to start small when everything else feels enormous. If today feels like the season won't end, this verse isn't asking you to feel differently. It's just quietly disagreeing with the part of you that says it's permanent.

If part of you is convinced this season will never end, this verse is worth sitting with as a quiet counterargument.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
