Discovering Jesus Together
DAILY VERSE · Day 149

Speak, Lord

Pray Then Act

And the LORD came and stood, calling as at other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel said, "Speak, for your servant hears."
1 SAMUEL 3:10 · ESV

Samuel was a kid, half-asleep, who mistook God's voice for his mentor's three times before anyone realized what was happening. Nobody in that story looks especially prepared or spiritually impressive. That's kind of the point.

What changes everything isn't Samuel suddenly becoming wise — it's him being told a single sentence to say next time: speak, I'm listening. That's it. Not a formula, not years of training, just a willingness to stop assuming the voice is background noise and actually turn toward it.

Maybe you've never heard anything you'd call God speaking. Maybe you're not even sure that's a real category of experience. But it's worth asking what it would take to actually listen for something, instead of deciding in advance there's nothing there to hear.

If you've ever wondered whether God still speaks to ordinary, half-convinced people, Samuel's story is worth a closer look.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
