Discovering Jesus Together
DAILY VERSE · Day 148

Morning by Morning

Pray Then Act

O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.
PSALM 5:3 · ESV

Before the noise of the day gets in — the notifications, the news, the mental to-do list — this verse pictures someone choosing to speak first, and then choosing to wait.

That second part is easy to skip. Most of us are fine with the speaking; it's the waiting that's hard. Prayer as a monologue is simple. Prayer as an actual conversation, where you say your piece and then stay quiet long enough to notice if anything answers back, is a different thing entirely — and honestly, a little uncomfortable if you've never tried it.

You don't have to know what you believe about God to notice how rare it is, in any part of life, to say something honest and then actually wait for a response instead of moving on. That alone might be worth trying once, before the day gets loud.

If you've never tried speaking honestly to God and then actually waiting for something back, tomorrow morning might be a good place to start.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
