But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Notice the timing in this verse. Not after we cleaned up. Not once we'd proven we were worth it. While we were still sinners — mid-mess, mid-mistake, nowhere near ready — that's when this love showed up.
Most love in this world runs on some kind of exchange. You earn it, you keep it, you can lose it if you slip too far. If that's the only love you've ever known, it makes sense to assume God works the same way — that He's waiting somewhere off in the distance for you to get your act together first.
This verse says the opposite happened. The proof came early, not late. You don't have to arrive anywhere to be within reach of it — you're already standing exactly where it found everyone else.
It's worth asking what kind of love doesn't wait for you to deserve it — and whether that's the love actually being offered here.
A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
