Quietness and Trust

Trust Over Worry

In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.
ISAIAH 30:15 · ESV

Most advice about strength points you toward more effort — push harder, hustle faster, white-knuckle through it. This verse points the opposite direction entirely: strength, it says, is found in returning and rest, in quietness and trust. That's a strange formula if you've spent your life believing strength means never stopping.

It was written to people who wanted to solve their problems by scrambling for more allies, more resources, more control. God's answer wasn't a better strategy. It was: stop scrambling. Come back. Sit still long enough to actually trust something outside your own effort.

That can sound like giving up if you've never tried it. It isn't. It's a different kind of strength than the one you've been taught to chase — and it's worth testing for yourself whether stillness could actually hold more than your striving ever has.

If your strength has been running on empty for a while, this verse offers a different definition worth considering.
