For your steadfast love is great to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.
Great to the heavens — this is the kind of line that's easy to read past as poetry, until you actually try to picture it. Look up on a clear night. That distance, that scale, that's the comparison being made. Not love that's impressively large by human standards, but love measured against something you can't even see the edge of.
That matters if the love you've experienced from people has mostly felt conditional, or in short supply, or something you had to ration and manage carefully. This verse isn't describing love on that scale. It's describing something that makes the sky itself look like a modest comparison.
One day left in the year is a strange place to be handed a claim this big. But maybe that's the point — not a tidy resolution to wrap the year up, just an honest reminder that whatever this year held, it wasn't the ceiling on what's actually available to you.
With one day left, it might be worth asking whether the love you've measured by this year's standards has actually been the ceiling.
A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
