But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me.
Paul was writing from prison, near the end of his life, uncertain how things would go. And yet: "I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me."
Notice what he doesn't claim. He doesn't say he understands everything, or that his circumstances make sense, or that he can see how it all turns out. What he claims is narrower and, honestly, more durable: he knows the person he's trusting. Confidence in the outcome, built on confidence in someone's character rather than a clear view of the future.
That's a different kind of certainty than the kind we usually chase — the kind that requires having all the answers first. If your life right now feels short on answers, this verse suggests you don't necessarily need them yet. You need to know who you're trusting, and whether that trust is well placed.
Before you need every answer, it might be worth simply getting to know who Jesus actually is.
A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
