Discovering Jesus Together
DAILY VERSE · Day 274

With All Your Heart

Full Trust

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
PROVERBS 3:5-6 · ESV

"Do not lean on your own understanding." That's a hard sentence for anyone who prides themselves on figuring things out. Most of us have built our lives around exactly that skill — reasoning our way to the right decision, trusting our own read on people and situations.

But this verse isn't anti-thinking. It's naming a specific limit: your understanding, however sharp, can't see everything. It doesn't know how today's decision plays out in five years. It doesn't see what's around the corner. "In all your ways acknowledge him" isn't asking you to stop thinking — it's asking you to stop assuming your view is the whole picture.

The promise attached to it is quiet but specific: "he will make straight your paths." Not that every path will be easy, but that the crooked, confusing ones don't have to stay that way forever, and you're not the only one responsible for straightening them.

If you've been trying to reason your way through everything alone, it might be worth exploring what it looks like to trust someone beyond your own understanding.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
