Discovering Jesus Together
DAILY VERSE · Day 217

He Will Do It

Firm in Christ

He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
1 THESSALONIANS 5:24 · ESV

You can read a promise like this two ways. One is as a nice sentiment, meant to feel encouraging in the moment. The other is as a claim that's actually being staked — that the God who calls you is, by nature, someone who follows through, and this particular thing will happen because of who he is, not because of how things are trending in your life right now.

What's easy to miss is the word calls. It's present tense, ongoing. Not called once, in the past, to people who lived long ago. Calls — still happening. If you're the kind of person who reads a verse like this and wonders whether it could possibly apply to someone still unsure what they think about all this, the calling itself doesn't seem to require certainty first.

Faithful people are rare enough in most of our lives that this claim is worth taking seriously rather than skimming past.

If you're still unsure what you believe, it's worth noticing this promise doesn't seem to be waiting on your certainty to be real.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
