Forgive and Be Free

The Freedom of Forgiveness

For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
MATTHEW 6:14 · ESV

This verse sounds like a transaction at first read — forgive and you'll be forgiven, like a trade. But sit with it longer and it starts to sound more like a description of how forgiveness actually works than a rule someone made up. People who refuse to forgive tend to stay locked in whatever happened to them. People who forgive tend to walk out of it, even when the other person never says sorry.

Maybe you've noticed this yourself, in a smaller way — how holding a grudge feels like punishing the other person, but somehow you're the one who can't sleep. Withholding forgiveness rarely touches the person who hurt you. It mostly just keeps you tethered to the moment they hurt you.

You don't need to force forgiveness you don't feel yet. But it might be worth asking who's actually still paying for what happened — and whether it's the person you're angry at, or you.

If you're curious what it would take to actually be free of something you're still carrying, that's worth sitting with honestly.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
