Commit Your Work

New Beginnings

Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established.
PROVERBS 16:3 · ESV

"Commit your work to the LORD" sounds simple until you try to picture what it actually means to hand your work — your job, your side project, your unfinished plans — to someone else. Most of us hold our work with a tight grip precisely because we don't trust anyone else to care about it the way we do.

This proverb is making a quiet claim that God is trustworthy enough to loosen that grip for. Not that you stop working, not that you stop caring — but that the anxious, white-knuckled ownership of every outcome isn't actually required of you.

If that sounds naive, it's a fair reaction. But it's worth asking where your grip has gotten you so far, and whether an outside opinion — a rock-solid one, if it's true — might genuinely be worth trusting with the parts you can't control anyway.

If letting go of that grip sounds impossible, it might be worth first asking who this God actually is before deciding whether He's trustworthy.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
