A Great Light

Light of the World

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.
ISAIAH 9:2 · ESV

There's a difference between a light that just shows up and a light you're invited to walk toward. This verse only describes the first part — the light appearing on people who weren't looking for it, who were just where they'd always been. It doesn't say they earned it or asked for it right.

That matters if you've ever felt like you'd have to get your life sorted before you'd deserve any kind of light showing up in it. This isn't a reward for people who found their way out of the dark on their own. It's a light that shines on people still standing in it.

What you do once you've seen it is a separate question — one worth sitting with, not rushing. But the verse itself is only making one claim: the light shone. Not earned, not requested, just there.

If you've been waiting to deserve the light before you let yourself notice it, that assumption might be worth questioning.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
