For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Someone wrote this list on purpose. Death, life, angels, rulers, the present, the future, height, depth — it reads like they sat down and tried to think of every single thing that could possibly come between a person and being loved. Then they said: none of it works.
That's a big claim, and it's worth taking seriously rather than skimming past. Most of us carry a quiet suspicion that there's some version of us — some failure, some year, some decision — that would be too much. That the love would run out eventually if the wrong thing got found.
This verse isn't asking you to feel a certain way about that today. It's just stating, plainly, that the list of disqualifying things is empty. If that's true, it changes what's actually possible for you — even on the days it doesn't feel true yet.
If part of you suspects you're the exception to that kind of love, it might be worth finding out whether that suspicion is actually true.
A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
