Discovering Jesus Together
DAILY VERSE · Day 328

Rooted in Him

Rooted in Christ

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
COLOSSIANS 2:6-7 · ESV

Roots don't show. That's kind of the point of them — everything visible about a tree depends on something underground you'll never see from the outside. This verse describes a life the same way: rooted in Christ, built up in him, and only then, overflowing.

If you've ever watched someone go through something brutal and stay steady in a way that seemed almost unreasonable, this might be part of what you were seeing. Not a performance of calm, but something underneath doing quiet, unglamorous work — the kind roots do, out of sight, holding everything else up.

Gratitude, at the end of this verse, isn't a mood you talk yourself into. It's what tends to show up naturally once something is actually rooted in solid ground. You don't have to fake the fruit. You just have to ask what — or who — you'd need to be rooted in for it to grow on its own.

If you've ever wanted the kind of steadiness that isn't just willpower, it's worth asking what it would mean to be rooted in Christ rather than just believing facts about him.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
