DAILY VERSE · Day 301

I Will Hold You

Strength in Christ

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
ISAIAH 41:10 · ESV

Three verbs stack up quickly in this verse: strengthen, help, uphold. It's almost like the writer knew one promise wouldn't be enough — that fear needs to be answered from multiple angles at once, because it rarely comes from just one direction either.

What's easy to skip past is what comes right before all three: "for I am with you." The strengthening, helping, and holding aren't separate acts God performs from a distance. They flow directly out of presence. This isn't a formula or a technique for managing fear — it's a person, staying close, in the middle of whatever's making you afraid.

"Fear not" can sound like a command you're failing to obey when you're anxious anyway. But look at what it's actually resting on: not your ability to stop feeling afraid, but someone else's commitment to hold on to you regardless. That's a very different kind of instruction — less about your performance, more about His grip.

If fear has felt like a failure you can't stop having, this verse points to a grip that doesn't depend on your composure.
