DAILY VERSE · Day 226

New Every Morning

Daily Renewal

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
LAMENTATIONS 3:22-23 · ESV

This verse comes from a book of grief. Lamentations is exactly what it sounds like — someone watching a city fall apart and refusing to sugarcoat it. And right in the middle of that wreckage, the writer says something almost defiant: his mercies are new every morning.

Not new once, back at the beginning. New every single morning, on a schedule that doesn't depend on how yesterday went. That's a different claim than "things will get better." It's closer to: whatever happened yesterday doesn't get the final word on today.

If you're the kind of person who tracks your own failures pretty closely, that daily reset might sound too good to be true. Fair. But notice the writer isn't describing a feeling he talked himself into — he's describing something he says he's observed, in the middle of a genuinely bad situation. That's worth more than optimism.

If your days tend to feel like one long unbroken stretch, it might be worth exploring what it would mean for today to actually be new.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
