And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Surrender is a loaded word. It sounds like losing — giving up ground, admitting defeat. But this verse pairs the idea of full surrender with something unexpected: peace, and a mind and heart actually guarded rather than exposed.
That's worth pausing on. What if the thing you've been gripping tightly — control over an outcome, a relationship, a plan for your life that isn't working anyway — isn't actually protecting you? What if letting go of the effort to manage everything yourself is what makes room for a peace that surpasses what your own management ever produced?
This isn't a call to stop caring or stop trying. It's a question about where you've been putting your weight — on your own grip, or on something described here as strong enough to guard you even after you've let go.
If holding tight to control has left you more tired than safe, it might be worth exploring what it would mean to let something stronger carry the weight.
A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
