My Strength and Shield

Be Strong and Take Heart

The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.
PSALM 28:7 · ESV

There's a small chain reaction in this verse worth tracing: trust leads to help, and help leads to joy. "My heart trusts in him, and I am helped; my heart exults." It's not joy that appears out of nowhere — it's joy that arrives downstream of something specific happening first.

That's a useful thing to notice if joy has always felt like a mood you either have or don't, something that shows up randomly or doesn't. This verse describes it differently — as a response to being actually helped, in a moment where help was needed and trust was placed somewhere first.

Maybe you're skeptical that trusting an unseen God could lead anywhere real. That's a fair thing to question rather than assume. But it's worth noticing what this verse is actually claiming: not blind positivity, but a lived sequence — trust, then help, then a heart that can't help but sing about it. That's a testable kind of claim, not just a feeling to manufacture.

If you've never tested whether trusting God actually leads anywhere, that experiment might be worth starting honestly.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
