Discovering Jesus Together
DAILY VERSE · Day 168

Know and Do

Faith That Works

If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.
JOHN 13:17 · ESV

Jesus says this right after washing His disciples' feet — a job usually left to a servant. He'd just done something humble and physical, and then He turns and says: now that you know this, you're blessed if you do it too.

Notice what He doesn't say. He doesn't say you're blessed for understanding the theology of humility, or for being moved by the gesture, or for agreeing it was a nice thing to do. Knowing isn't the finish line here. It's barely the starting line.

Most of us have more moral knowledge than we act on — we know honesty matters, know kindness matters, know a hundred things we quietly don't do. This verse doesn't shame that gap; it just names it plainly and points past it. If you're weighing whether Jesus is worth taking seriously, this is one honest test: not whether His teaching sounds wise, but whether you'd actually be willing to live it if it turned out to be true.

If you're curious what else Jesus asked people to actually do, not just believe, His words are worth reading for yourself.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
