I Am With You

Firm Foundations

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you.
ISAIAH 41:10 · ESV

Notice what this verse doesn't promise: it doesn't say the reason to stop fearing is that nothing bad will happen. The reason given is much narrower and, honestly, more believable — I am with you.

That's a different kind of comfort than the usual reassurances people offer. "It'll be fine" is a guess. "I'm with you" is a presence, which is a promise that can hold up even when things aren't fine. Strength and support aren't described as things you have to conjure up yourself here — they're offered by someone staying close, not someone standing at a distance shouting encouragement.

You don't have to already trust that voice to notice the difference between being told not to worry and being told you won't face it alone. That distinction is worth sitting with, especially on the days fear feels loudest.

If what you actually need isn't a guarantee that everything works out but the assurance you won't face it alone, it's worth finding out who's offering that.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
