Discovering Jesus Together
DAILY VERSE · Day 94

By His Wounds

He Is Risen

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
1 PETER 2:24 · ESV

This verse names a purpose behind the wounds: so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. Not suffering for no reason. Suffering aimed at something — a shift Peter describes as death on one side and life on the other, with the wounds sitting right in between.

There's a strange logic to it. Usually we think healing has to come before change — feel better first, then act different. This verse flips that. The wound itself is described as the source of the healing. Something broken, absorbed on your behalf, becomes the reason something else in you can start over.

If your life feels stuck in a pattern you can't seem to shake, this verse isn't offering willpower as the fix. It's pointing at something already done to a body, on a piece of wood, that it claims is enough to make room for a different kind of life.

If you've been trying to white-knuckle your way into a different life, this verse points somewhere else worth investigating first.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
