Discovering Jesus Together
DAILY VERSE · Day 93

It Is Finished

He Is Risen

When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, "It is finished," and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
JOHN 19:30 · ESV

Three words, spoken right before He died: it is finished. Not "I am finished," like a man giving up. A completed work — something accomplished on purpose, right up to the last breath.

That word choice matters. It's the kind of thing you'd say after paying off a debt in full, not the kind of thing you'd say mid-collapse. Jesus said it deliberately, then bowed His head — like someone closing a book at the last page, not someone cut off mid-sentence.

If you've spent your life feeling like you're never quite done enough, never quite good enough, this moment stands in direct contrast. It doesn't say "try harder." It says something was completed, on your behalf, so you wouldn't have to finish it yourself.

If the pressure to be enough has been exhausting, it's worth finding out what Jesus meant by declaring the work already done.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
