Love That Covers

Loving People Well

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.
1 PETER 4:8 · ESV

"Covers a multitude of sins" is an odd phrase to land on at the end of a letter about how to treat each other, but it's saying something specific: love doesn't just tolerate the small stuff, it actually covers real wrongs — a lot of them, repeatedly, without keeping a tally that eventually gets cashed in.

That's different from denial. Covering isn't pretending something didn't happen. It's choosing not to expose it, not to weaponize it, not to bring it back up every time there's an argument. Anyone who's been on the receiving end of that kind of love knows how rare it actually is — most relationships keep score whether they admit it or not.

It's fair to wonder whether love like that is even sustainable, or whether it's just a nice ideal that collapses under real pressure. That's worth testing honestly rather than assuming either way — in your own relationships, and in whatever you think might be the source behind a love this durable.

If you've never experienced love that actually covers instead of keeping score, it's worth finding out where a love like that could come from.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
