And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Full of grace and truth — those two words don't usually travel together. Truth, on its own, tends to come with an edge; it points out what's wrong. Grace, on its own, can slide into avoiding hard things altogether just to keep the peace. Most people you've met are better at one than the other.
This verse claims something that sounds almost contradictory: a person who was completely honest and completely kind, at the same time, without either one canceling the other out. Someone who could tell you the truth about yourself without using it against you.
If you've mostly experienced one without the other — people who were honest but cold, or kind but never straight with you — it's worth wondering what it would actually be like to encounter both at once. That's the specific claim this verse is making about who showed up.
If honesty and kindness have always felt like a trade-off to you, it might be worth seeing what it looks like when they aren't.
A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
