Better Than Life

Living Trust

Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.
PSALM 63:3 · ESV

"Better than life" is a bold thing to say about anything. Life is the baseline — it's what we measure everything else against, the thing people cling to hardest when it's threatened. So when this verse says God's steadfast love outranks life itself, it's not a small compliment. It's a claim that would sound absurd unless it were actually true.

This was written by someone in a hard, exposed place — not from comfort, but from need. That matters. This isn't the praise of someone with nothing to lose. It's the praise of someone who's weighed what they have against what they're being offered, and found the offer bigger.

You don't have to already believe that to notice the claim being made. Most things we chase — comfort, safety, approval, even survival — assume life is the highest good. This verse suggests there's something worth wanting even more. That's worth at least sitting with, whether or not you've felt it yet yourself.

If you've never questioned whether life itself is the highest thing worth chasing, this verse is a quiet invitation to wonder what could be worth more.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
