Peace That Guards

Rooted in Him

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
PHILIPPIANS 4:7 · ESV

Notice the strange claim buried in this verse: a peace that "surpasses all understanding." Not a peace that comes from understanding your situation — from finally having the answers. A peace that doesn't wait for the answers at all.

Most of us have been taught that calm comes after clarity. Figure out the plan, solve the problem, then you can relax. This verse is describing something different — a kind of steadiness that shows up while the questions are still open, guarding the heart and mind like a soldier stationed at a door that anxiety keeps trying to get through.

That might sound like wishful thinking if you've never experienced it. Fair enough. But it's worth asking whether the peace you've been chasing through certainty was ever actually available — or whether there's a different kind on offer, one that doesn't require you to have it all figured out first.

If the peace you're looking for keeps depending on your circumstances finally cooperating, maybe it's worth exploring where this other kind of peace actually comes from.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
