DAILY VERSE · Day 263

He Is Faithful

Firm Foundation

But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.
2 THESSALONIANS 3:3 · ESV

Paul wrote this to a church dealing with real threats — confusion, opposition, people trying to derail them. His answer isn't a strategy or a pep talk. It's a redirect: the Lord is faithful. Not you need to be more faithful, not things will work out if you try hard enough. The weight of the sentence rests entirely on someone else's character.

That's worth sitting with, because most promises people make you are conditional on their circumstances too — they'll be there for you unless something more urgent comes up, unless it costs them too much. This verse describes a faithfulness that isn't contingent on convenience. It establishes and guards, present tense, ongoing.

If you've been let down by people whose faithfulness had limits, it's fair to be wary of any promise that sounds unconditional. But it's also worth asking whether this one has actually been tested and found wanting, or whether you've just never looked closely.

If every faithfulness you've known has had limits, it might be worth examining whether this one is different before writing it off.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
