Abide in the Vine

Abundant Life

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
JOHN 15:5 · ESV

"Apart from me you can do nothing" is a hard sentence to hear if you've built your life around being capable. Most of us are trained to prize exactly the opposite — self-sufficiency, doing it yourself, needing no one. Jesus says the branch, cut off from the vine, produces nothing at all. Not less. Nothing.

But look at what's offered in the same breath: whoever abides in me and I in him bears much fruit. It's not a threat, it's an invitation to a completely different way of being connected — mutual, not one-directional. He's not just asking you to stay near him. He says he'll remain in you too.

You might be someone who's never needed much from anyone. This verse isn't interested in your independence as evidence of strength. It's suggesting a different kind of life is available — one built on staying attached, not on going it alone.

If a life built on staying connected instead of going it alone sounds like something worth understanding better, that's a good place to keep looking.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
