Discovering Jesus Together

He Satisfies

Living Bread

Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst."
JOHN 6:35 · ESV

There's a particular kind of hunger that food doesn't touch. You can eat well, sleep enough, check every box on the list of things that are supposed to satisfy you, and still feel like something underneath is running on empty. Most people just learn to live with that hum in the background.

Jesus doesn't offer a technique for managing it. He makes an odd, almost blunt claim about himself: come to me, and the hunger stops. Not "I'll teach you to cope with hunger" — a much bigger claim than that, that he himself is the thing the hunger was actually pointing toward.

That's a lot to take on faith from someone you may not be sure you trust yet. But it's worth noticing the specificity: he doesn't say people who already have it figured out. He says whoever comes. The door's open before the certainty is.

If you've ever wondered what exactly Jesus meant by claims like this one, that's a question worth chasing down.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
