Rivers of Living Water

Life in the Spirit

Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'
JOHN 7:38 · ESV

Not a trickle. Rivers. Jesus describes something overflowing from inside a person who believes in Him — not a private, contained faith, but something that spills out and reaches other people almost as a side effect.

That image is worth pausing on if faith has ever seemed like a purely internal, personal thing — something you keep to yourself and manage quietly. This verse pictures the opposite: life so full it moves outward, unforced, like water finding its own way downhill.

Maybe your experience of spiritual things has felt dry rather than overflowing. This verse doesn't shame that — it just names what's supposedly available, in someone who believes: not a cautious sip, but rivers. Worth asking whether that's ever actually been offered to you, or just heard about secondhand.

If your experience of faith has felt more like a drought than a river, it might be worth asking Jesus about the gap between the two.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
