Discovering Jesus Together
DAILY VERSE · Day 100

Power from on High

Life in the Spirit

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
ACTS 1:8 · ESV

"You will receive power." Not produce it, not work it up, not earn it through enough effort — receive it. Before Jesus ever talks about what His followers will do, He tells them what they'll be given.

That order matters more than it might seem. It's easy to assume faith is mostly about becoming a stronger, more disciplined, more capable version of yourself. But this verse points somewhere else entirely: the strength doesn't come from inside you. It comes down, from outside you, and it arrives when you're honest about not having it on your own.

And the goal was never a performance. "You will be my witnesses" just means telling the truth about what you've actually seen — starting in the ordinary, nearby places of your own life, not some distant stage. You don't need eloquence for that. You just need a story.

If the idea of God's Spirit actually being real and available to you sounds like something worth understanding, the good news starts with a person, not a performance.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
