DAILY VERSE · Day 96

Resurrection and Life

He Is Risen

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live."
JOHN 11:25 · ESV

Jesus didn't say He would show people the way to resurrection and life. He said He is the resurrection and the life — putting Himself, personally, at the center of the biggest question any of us carry: what happens when we die?

That's a bold claim to make about yourself, and it only makes sense if it's either true or the words of someone deeply mistaken. There's not much room for "nice teacher" in a statement like this one. It's a specific, personal claim, spoken to a grieving woman who'd just lost her brother.

Whatever you believe about death, this verse doesn't offer a theory. It offers a person, and a promise attached to trusting Him — that dying wouldn't be the end of the story. That's either the most important sentence you'll read today, or it's nothing. Worth deciding which.

If you've never let yourself sit with what Jesus actually claimed about death, this is as good a place as any to start.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
