A Clean Heart

A Humble Heart

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
PSALM 51:10 · ESV

"Create in me a clean heart, O God." Notice the word David reaches for. Not fix, not improve, not try harder next time — create. That's the same word from the very first page of the Bible, the word for something made out of nothing.

David prayed this after the worst thing he'd ever done, not the best. And that might be the most freeing detail in the whole verse: he didn't clean himself up first and then approach God. He came exactly as he was — messy, honest, out of excuses — and asked God to do the part he couldn't do himself.

If you're carrying something today that feels too far gone to bring to God, this verse says otherwise. A clean heart was never something you were supposed to manufacture on your own. It's something you're invited to ask for.

Curious what it actually looks like to bring the real, unfiltered version of yourself to God? That's exactly where meeting Jesus begins.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
