Discovering Jesus Together
DAILY VERSE · Day 17

Hidden in the Heart

Loving the Word

I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
PSALM 119:11 · ESV

"I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you." Notice the timing built into that sentence — the storing happens before the temptation, not during it. Nobody successfully thinks their way through a hard decision using wisdom they haven't picked up yet.

That's a practical, almost unglamorous idea: that the words you've let settle into you ahead of time are the ones actually available when the pressure hits later. Willpower alone tends to buckle in the moment. What this verse describes is more like preparation — something placed inside you in advance, waiting there for the day you'll need it.

You don't have to have a shelf of memorized verses to start. It's worth asking, though, what you actually have stored up in yourself right now — what's ready to surface when you need something solid to stand on, and whether that's enough.

If you've noticed you have nothing solid to reach for in hard moments, that might be worth looking into before the next one arrives.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
